@maznee . Good morning !

Looking into this sighting again, a possible candidate species: _Daphnandra micrantha_ (in its strict taxonomic sense).
Compare and contrast to alternative possible candidate species: _Daphnandra apatela_ .

Hence does this tree sighted here have:
• the midribs sunken on the upper surface of the leaves ?
or
• the midribs slightly raised or flush with the upper surface of the leaves ?

All the best,
Jason (Stewart)

Thanks for this info, & questions to follow-up @JasonPStewartNMsnc2016. As with @Csteele4, I will get back to you once I get back to the site. Hopefully this week, didn't make it when I last thought I would. Cheers, MazzV

Yeah safety first for all !
Those comment notes work (as well as photographs) !
Identification confirmed.
If in later seasons this plant fruits then you may double check the identification and photograph these, as well.
Leaves' form in general including shape, suggests _Ficus rubiginosa_ as well, but leaves form in general varies with conditions so only suggestive not conclusive, by the way of sharing information regarding field spotting and my identification processes.

Ficus rubiginosa
14 Jun 2025
@JasonPStewartNMsnc2016 Good morning!

The plant is growing on a rocky ledge which unfortunately I can't safely get to - so the photographs are the best I can get (i.e. without holding the plant).

-Rusty coloured underside - I can't say more about hairs.
-Petioles less than 4cm
-Lamina less than 10 cm
