@MatthewFrawley this is lacking the yellow around the head (female) & yellow on the sides of thorax (male) that Laeviscolia frontalis has. I was going to suggest Australelis anthracina, but the head, eyes, thorax, legs, wings are different (in addition to those white spurs on the hind legs). Not sure what this one is😩It does have a lot of similarities to Anthoboscinae sp. but there are very minimal photos available online….

Thanks for taking a look @DiBickers, my suggestion of Laeviscolia frontalis was just a guess from looking at other sightings here on NatureMapr.

@MatthewFrawley happy to help😊I think I need to sift through Laeviscolia frontalis and swap some over as well (I’ve already done some of them but didn’t want to join NM and then change too many things in my first couple of weeks)💚

@AaronClausen as an amateur working on a major platform like NatureMapr it is really testing my confidence to say or do things. I’m so used to assisting in multiple entomology Facebook groups where you can suggest something and then they upload their observations to somewhere like NatureMapr or iNaturalist to get an actual entomologist to verify something. Soooo, I’m trying (& just hoping what I’m doing is helpful in some way), but always keen to learn more💚

@simonc morning😊I just wanted to Tag you into this one because it looks like we’ve got a third candidate with yellow spots on the abdomen.

PS. I’ve also separated the obs in Laeviscolia frontalis into Australelis anthracina (or Unidentified Scollidae if the head/thorax aren’t clear) & updated the description & amended the sample photos in each to make it easier for people uploading photos to understand/see the distinction between them💚

@MatthewFrawley💚I’ve merely relayed key identifiers which I’ve learned from others and am happy to share so we can all learn together😊😊

Hi @DiBickers thanks for working on this. I was hoping to suggest you might check all the existing L. frontalis sightings as I had not ever looked at them in any depth and don’t have a lot of spare capacity at the moment
